Abia Today : What does the office of the Secretary to the State Covernment entail?

SSG: This office is made up of four Bureaus namely: The Political Bureau, The Economic Bureau, The Special Services Bureau, and the Executive Council Bureau. As different issues and needs arise from these Bureus, Ministries, and Agencies, we attend to them as different issues and needs arise from these Bureus, Ministries, and Agencies, we attend to them as expeditiously as possible. expeditiously as possible. We also receive proposals from prospective investors to receive and reply to invitations and other corresspondence on behalf of the State Government.

So my office serves as a buffer to the Governor. Our duty is to reduce the bureucratic burden by sieving what should go to him and what we could handle. We also oversee government functions so that way we can get government moving without hitches.

Abia Today : Is your office making any attempts to facilitate e-governance so that those in diaspora and elsewhere can still do business with the state through your office?


SSG: E-Governance is one of the innovations that facilitate the ease of doing business not just with the bureacracy but also with various Ministries, Departments and Agencies. The Governor recently signed an order on transparency in government. This is because of his conviction that people. government is one of the key targets of this government is to ensure that this and future governments of Abia State would be completely technologically driven. We are focused on having a comprehensive data pool of every part of this government, which you can access not just by coming here but information you want to get on Agriculture, Health, Infrastructure, amongst others. That is where we are headed.

Barrister Chris Ezem was born on the 24th day of December, 1969 in Amibo, Ubakala, Umuahia South L. G. A. of Abia State to the family of late Chief Mathew Anyanwu Ezem and Mrs. Christiana Ezem both of Amibo, Ubakala, Umuahia South Local Government Area ofAbia State.

Madu & Associates from 1994 1996 from where he proceeded to set up his own private practice Ezem Chris & Associates, a firm of Legal Practitioners in 1996. His love for Education made him return to University of Lagos between 1997-1998 for his Masters Programme in Law (LL.M).

He currently holds a Masters Degree in Law and he is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association. He is the Principal Partner of Ezem Chris & Associates a Firm of Legal Practitioners based in Lagos with a Team of Lawyers.

Barrister Chris Ezem apart from his Legal Practise has being an active player in Politics. He is a Card carrying Member of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a major stakeholder in the party in Umuahia South Local Government and Abia State in general.

He has held the following Political Offices:

  1. Special Assistant on Political Affairs to His Excellency Governor T. A. Orji -2010-2011.
  2. Member Governing Council, Abia State College of Health Sciences and Management Technology Aba -2011-2014.
  3. Chairman, Governing Council, Abia State College of Health Sciences and Management Technology Aba -2015-2018
  4. He was Transition Chairman Umuahia South Local Government Area, Abia State, from 14th February 2019 to 28th May 2019.
  5. Recently, on the 6th day of June 2019, he was appointed Secretary to the Government of Abia State, a position he occupies till date.

Chris Ezem is an active member of Ubakala Improvement Union and a Community activist. He takes active part in community development particularly Youth Empowerment and support for the widows and less privileged.

He is a Christian and of the Anglican Faith. His hobbies include Reading Writing, Music, community Development and travelling. Barrister
